I have been practicing nurse-midwifery since January, 2000. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1983. After the home birth of my first child in 1991, I became commited to helping other women have the same, wonderful experience that I had. I returned to school and earned a BAchelor of Science in Nursing in 1994. After working as a registered nurse in a high risk labor and delivery unit, I began my study of nurse-midwifery in the fall of 1997. I obtained a certification in nurse-midwifery in January, 2000, and a Master of Science in Nursing in the summer of 2002. Like all certified nurse-midwives, I am a registered nurse and have passed the national certifiying examination administered by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. I am licensed to practice midwifery in Virginia. I believe that birth is a natural process which does not require medical interventions, except in the case of emergency. I practice holistic medicine, emphasizing the use of herbs to maintain the health of you and your baby throughout the pregnancy.
