My name is Taunya Simmons. I am 33 years old and I have been married to my best friend, David, for the past 13 years. We have one son, Christopher age 11. I began my journey into midwifery in February of 1994 thru a 3 year apprenticeship program. I completed my apprenticeship in February of 1997. I have been serving pregnant and birthing women as a primary midwife since 1997. I believe that continuing education is very important and I attend midwifery conferences annually and I am also working to complete a midwifery correspondence course thru Ancient Arts Midwifery Institute. My approach to pregnancy and birth is one of wellness and not illness. I am a very naturalistic wife and mother to my own family and I share this philosophy with the women and families I serve through my midwifery practice. I am a God centered, firmly founded Christian midwife. I believe God created a womans body uniquely to give birth and that giving birth is no more a medical event than is eating. Nutrition and education are very important factors in helping a woman acheive the kind of birth she desires. Because I feel a woman should be able interview her care provider before making a decision, my initial consultation and visit is always free.
