If
you are interested in becoming a midwife, you must first decide which
route to take and where you want to go. In the United States, there are
two organizations which accredit midwifery education, the Division of
Accreditation of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (DOA/ACNM) and
the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC). The ACNM is
accredited by the United States Department of Education as an
accrediting agency for nurse-midwifery education programs and for
direct-entry (non-nursing) midwifery education programs. MEAC has been
accredited by the Department to accredit direct-entry (non-nursing)
midwifery education programs.
