MidwifeInfo Directory
When the directory was added to the MidwifeInfo website, it became an immediate hit, and why not? A simple, free way for midwives to advertise their services. The directory was designed so that midwives could add and edit their own information, following (I thought) simple instructions posted on the site. However, it became apparent after a period of time that the instructions were confusing, or that, as midwives added information to their pages, they were changing their minds. Rather than try to edit the information, they just started over, creating multiple pages. Some of these pages had almost no information. I tried to clean up the directory on a regular basis, but it became an overwhelming task. Eventually, we decided to eliminate the ability for individuals to add or edit their own content, which actually made things easier for me. Then I got too busy to do that.
It is clear that the directory is a valued feature of the website, and I want to bring it up to date and re-enable users to add and edit their content. Currently, we are working on possible ways to do this, and will keep you up to date. One question - if you had to pay a small fee (say, $25/year) to post your practice in the directory, would you feel that was worth it to you? Having no idea how many referrals midwives are getting through the directory, I have no idea how valuable you consider this service to be. I would love to have your input on this. In any case, we are working on the directory, trying to make it user-friendly to you and to me as well.
Thanks, Nancy
